Caring for someone with IBD

Looking after yourself

Caring for someone with IBD, whether it’s your partner, child or friend can be both demanding and stressful. It’s important to take time for yourself so you can keep supporting your loved one.

See the Carers NZ information on respite and well-being when caring for someone with a chronic condition like IBD. You can also download the Time out guide, which contains ideas to help carers get the breaks they need.

Who to talk to?

If you want someone to talk to about your health or your role as a carer, your GP is a good place to start. Write down a list of questions and what is troubling you, so you are prepared beforehand.
